The Board of Trustees of Boyd County Public Library believes that public libraries play an essential role in the quality of life of the community which they serve. Accordingly, the Library seeks and welcomes gifts, grants, and/or support in the form of sponsorship from individuals, foundations, businesses, and other organizations in order to maintain and expand its collections and services. This way we can make the library’s collections and services easily accessible and available to all patrons who seek to use them.
Donation of Materials
Donated materials are accepted with the understanding that only those items which meet the criteria for material selection will be added to the collection. Donations are final and become the property of Boyd County Public Library. The Library reserves the right to dispose of items that are in poor condition, out-of-date, or not needed for other reasons. Materials the Library is unable to use are given to the Boyd County Public Library Friends for sale or disposed.
A “receipt for donation” will be given to the donor, upon request, indicating the number and nature of items donated. No value will be assigned to the donated materials.
Except under very unusual circumstances, no gifts will be accepted that require treatment different from that given materials acquired via normal procedures.
Gifts and Memorials
The Library gratefully accepts funds for the purchase of materials. The Library will attempt to honor requests to purchase materials in a particular subject area or genre. Such decisions will be based upon availability of materials and the needs of the collection. When requested, bookplates will be placed in items purchased with donated patron funds, usually in the name of the person a donor wishes to honor or memorialize.
Acceptance of Solicitation of Gifts Grants, and/or Support
- All gifts, grants, and/or support must further the Library’s mission, goals, objectives, and priorities. No gift, grant, or support will be accepted if the donor or sponsor seeks to limit, restrict, or impose any restraint on access to the Library, or the collections, or services.
- All gifts, grants, and/or support must protect the principle of intellectual freedom, which is foundational to the Library.
- The Board of Trustees, in consultation with the Director and other interested parties, retain the authority to accept or reject any gift, grant, and/or support.
Approval
Subject to the guidelines outlined above, all gifts, grants, and/or support given with special requirements must be approved by the Director.
Authority for Implementation
The Library reserves the right to make decisions regarding the implementation of each gift, grant, or offer of in-kind support without setting precedent in any future decisions and without regard to past decisions.
The Library reserves the right not to accept any gift, grant, and/or support for any reason.
See Gifts and Donation Policy for complete guidelines.
