Zinio Online Magazines

View full digital copies of your favorite magazines! Boyd County Public Library subscribes to 224 titles (see list). You see the exact same material you get in print‚ plus some issues include features like video, audio and live links. Magazine issues are not checked out so they’re always available any time. Read online or download issues to your computer or mobile device to read offline. You must have a current Boyd County Public Library card to use this collection.To access this service, you will create TWO (2) accounts for Zinio Digital Magazines for Libraries - one to access the library collection – and a second to view the magazines in a personal Zinio viewer account.Zinio magazines may be read on a wide variety of apps available for many mobile devices. Click on the device that best suits your needs to download your free app now: PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android, Kindle Fire and Blackberry Playbook.

A computer or a mobile device with the Zinio app installed
A Boyd County Public Library barcode number from the back of your library card.
An email address
A Zinio account (You will be prompted to create one if you don’t already have one.)

First Time Users – Create an Account:

Connect to the library’s Zinio account using your browser, NOT the app.
Leave the email/password areas blank
Click the Create Account button
Enter your barcode number, click Validate
Enter your email address/password/name (first name is fine), click Create Account
Check your email account for an email from RB Digital Portal
Click on the link to activate your account
Go back to the Zinio page, click Return to Login
Type your email address and password

Select a Magazine:

Connect to the library’s Zinio account using your browser, NOT the app
Log in with your email address and password
Click on a magazine to place it in your Zinio account
A new window will open asking you to create a Zinio account
The email address from the library account you created will appear in the email box. Type a password and click Continue to create your Zinio account. If you already have an account, click “sign in here” and sign in to your account.
The magazine you selected will be in your Zinio account. Click on it to start reading.
It is VERY IMPORTANT that the email address used to create your library account matches the email address used to create your Zinio account. If the email addresses do not match, the magazine will not be added to your Zinio account. The passwords don’t have to be the same, but the email addresses must be the same.

Select More than One Magazine:

Follow the instructions above to place a magazine in your Zinio account
Click on the tab “Return to Library Collection”
Click on another magazine
The window with your Zinio account will open with the new magazine included
Continue to click “Return to Library Collection” as often as you like to select a magazine
Go to your Zinio account to read them

Read Magazines Offline:

You must be online to select magazines and download them
Follow the instructions above to place a magazine in your Zinio account
Open the Zinio app on your mobile device or your PC or Mac and select a magazine to download
When the download is complete you can read that magazine offline
Only magazines that have been downloaded through the app can be read offline

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

How do I check out a magazine?
Use your browser (not the app) to go to the library’s Zinio account and follow the steps above to log in and select a magazine.
How do I read a magazine that I already have checked out?
- From a computer that is online, connect to your Zinio account. Log in then click My Library at the top of the screen.
- From a computer that is offline, use the Zinio Reader 4 app for PC or Mac. Remember to download the magazine to the app while you’re still online.
- From a mobile device that is online or offline, use the Zinio app. Remember to download the magazine to your device, by clicking the arrow next to the issue, before reading offline.
- Nook Color and Nook Tablet users must be online and use the browser to connect to your Zinio account. Log in then click My Library at the top of the screen.
How can I see an alphabetical list of titles in the library’s Zinio account?
- To see a list of titles, click once in the Title box. Please note that titles that start with The (The Economist, The Writer) are listed under T.
- To see a list of topics, click once in the Genre box. Please note that the topics are created by Zinio, not the library.
How do I remove magazine issues from my account?
- Connect to your Zinio account from a computer.
- Log in and click My Library
- Click the Edit button near the top of the screen
- Click the Remove button under each issue
Can I print from a magazine?
Print options are determined by the publisher. Some will allow you to print a single page, a range of pages or none at all. In order to print you must be logged in to your Zinio account using a browser or the PC/Mac app. Click the printer button on the bottom left side of the screen. Printing is not available from the mobile app.

All you need is 5 minutes a day and an email address to join one of our FREE online book clubs!

Are you looking for great new authors? Looking for a great book? Would you like to sample a book before you commit to checking it out? Do you like Chocolate Chip cookies? If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions then you need to join one of online book clubs. How does it work? Every week we sample a new book. Monday through Friday, a quick 5 minute read is delivered to your email box and waiting for you to peruse with your morning cup of coffee. At the end of Friday’s read the ending page number is given so when you pick up the book from the library you know where you left off. (There is also a link on the emails to quickly and easily reserve the book from the library.)

There’s a book club for just about everyone, including: fiction, non-fiction, romance, mystery, science fiction, audio, business, pre-publication (be the first to see these soon-to-be-released books), teen, good news, and horror. On Mondays and Thursdays, Suzanne, your book club editor, offers a link to AuthorBuzz, where she introduces you to 3 or 4 authors and their books. Suzanne also holds giveaways where you can win funny or cool prizes–and once a month, Suzanne bakes homemade chocolate chip cookies for the winners of her monthly Chocolate Chip Cookie giveaway.

AudioBookCloud offers hundreds of full length streaming audiobooks for both adult and juvenile readers. One great feature is their titles are always available. This means that there is no checkout process and no additional software required. Simply click on ‘listen online’ and the audiobook will start streaming to your PC or Mac computer.

There are many classic titles including Shakespeare, Mark Twain, Charles Dickens and many more. Juvenile material includes Lucy Maud Montgomery, A.A. Milne and many others. Several of the titles are also available in ebook form through the TumbleReadables database giving you access to both the ebook and the audiobook.

Tumblereadables is an online collection of read-along titles for elementary, middle school, and high school students which features adjustable online text and complete audio narration. Sentences are highlighted as they are being read and the pages turn automatically. The collection features chapter books, early readers, graphic novels, YA/teen novels, high interest/low level books for both middle school and high school students, plus classics of American and English literature.

Read-Alongs are great for emergent, struggling, and reluctant readers, as well as being an excellent tool for ESL. They are also well received by strong and accomplished readers who are excited to follow along to the narration of their favorite books. Children, who are now growing up with e-mail, instant messaging, IPODs, and text messaging are early and willing adopters to this innovative online reading experience.

TumbleBookLibrary is an online collection of TumbleBooks animated, talking picture books which teach kids the joy of reading in a format they’ll love. TumbleBooks are created by adding animation, sound, music and narration to existing picture books in order to produce an electronic picture book which you can read, or have read to you.

The TumbleBookLibrary is a collection of licensed titles from children’s book publishers such as Simon & Schuster, Chronicle Books, Candlewick Press, Charlesbridge Press, Harcourt, Little Brown, Walker & Company, Lerner Books, and HarperCollins Publishers, amongst others.

The TumbleBookLibrary provides enrichment to students who are reading independently with a variety of high interest material. It also provides support to students who require skill building with a variety of exercises that can be matched with other areas of the curriculum. In general, TumbleBooks are a great addition to a reading program that can be worked on independently by each student or by the whole class. It has been exceptionally well received by ESL and Special Education teachers.

Story Books:
The TumbleBookLibrary has a selection of children’s favorite story books. Old time favorites such as “The Paper Bag Princess” by Robert Munsch, as well as favorite fairy tales such as “Jack and the Beanstalk” and “Old Mother Hubbard” come to life in an educational and interactive way. Other titles include: “Diary of a Worm,” “How I Became a Pirate,” “Miss Malarkey Doesn’t Live in Room 10,” “One Duck Stuck,” and “Tops and Bottoms.” Click to see a complete list of available titles.

Automatic/Manual Button: TumbleBooks are designed to be experienced in either automatic or manual mode. In automatic mode, the pages turn by themselves and are narrated; while in manual, the narration and animation continue but children turn the pages at their own speed. A flashing arrow appears at the end of each page prompting the reader to turn the page. The sound off/on button allows the student to mute the narration and read to themselves. The Pause Button: Both the student and teacher can use the pause button to stop the story at any time in order to practice story prediction, interpret pictures, discuss new vocabulary words, empathize with a character, discuss possible consequences of actions, encourage problem solving, or provide historical, geographical, or other perspectives.

Language Learning:
Our Language Learning Section includes a growing selection of books in Spanish and French. Many are bilingual titles which allow the user to read the book in two languages.

Read-Along Books:
Older students or more accomplished readers can read our collection of read-along chapter books. Read-along titles feature narration, sentence highlighting, and automatic page turning.

TumbleTV:
We’ve included pre-set playlists for your convenience which play various books in sequence! No need to choose books and add them to your favorites or playlist as we’ve already done this for you! Also, check out our TumbleTV episode which features a zany host introducing various TumbleBooks.

Non-fiction Books:
Our non-fiction section allows young readers the opportunity to explore stories about real animals, people or places.

Puzzles and Games:
A collection of puzzles and games accompany each book and reinforce concepts from the books, allowing for a fun and educational learning experience.

TumbleBookLibrary En Espanol and TumbleBookLibrary en Francais:
Our language drop down menu allows users to view the entire website in Spanish or French. Instructions, news and descriptions of books are all in Spanish or French. Perfect for ESL, Bilingual, and French and Spanish programs.

TumbleSearch:
Our online search allows you to search by title, author, publisher, and language. In addition, you can search by reading levels in both Automatic and Manual modes as well as by subject.

MyPlaylist:
The TumblePlayer allows students, teachers, librarians and parents to preload a number of TumbleBooks in an online player in order to be played one after another. The TumblePlayer works just like an online music player.

My Favorites:
Add your favorite title(s) to the My Favorites section for easy access any time. This feature is cookied onto individual computers.

TumbleMailer and Record-a-Book Feature
Kids and parents can send TumbleCards and TumbleBooks to friends and family through our TumbleMailer feature. They can also narrate and record their own TumbleBooks!
