The new Something About the Author Online provides first-time comprehensive online access to all volumes ever printed in Something About the Author, the main series, and Something About the Author: Autobiography Series — more than 210 volumes, more than 19,000 entries and nearly 17,000 images

Something About the Author Online is a complete archive that preserves the full integrity of the print reference series. It provides a backfile of searchable pages digitized directly from the print volumes. Search on an author’s name and the screen will display the writer’s biographical profile in Something About the Author’s familiar format: personal data, addresses, career, awards and honors, writings, sidelights (essay on the author’s life and works), adaptations, additional sources and more.

Something About the Author Online also includes hundreds of specially commissioned autobiography essays from Something About the Author: Autobiography Series, whose critical acclaim by American Reference Books Annual still holds true: “Unlike anything else in print or on the Internet, these overviews of careers hold the magic of the moment, the cause and ongoing purpose of creative lives.”

These truly unique essays average about 10,000 words; are illustrated with an abundance of personal photos; and present an entertaining and informative first-person perspective on the lives and careers of prominent authors and illustrators of books for children and young adults.

Gale takes literature, history and culture to the next level with its most extensive curated compilation of literary commentary available: Literature Criticism Online. The individual, award-winning Gale series that comprise Literature Criticism Online represent a range of modern and historical views on authors and their works across regions, eras and genres. Imagine centuries of analysis — the scholarly and popular commentary from broadsheets, pamphlets, encyclopedias, books and periodicals — delivered in an easy format that matches the exact look and feel of the print originals. Gale literary references reach back 20 to 30 years and taken together as print, they could easily fill 230 feet of shelf space! Now, hundreds of volumes are digitized and ready to read 24/7 online. The net result is tens of thousands of hard-to-find essays at your fingertips. It’s all designed to raise the level of research while providing around-the-clock remote access that today’s researchers demand. With its complete and cross-referenced essay content, researchers will need to look no further. Only Literature Criticism Online brings together the most acclaimed literary series from Gale:

Contemporary Literary Criticism®

Twentieth-Century Literary Criticism®

Nineteenth-Century Literature Criticism®

Literature Criticism from 1400–1800

Poetry Criticism

Short Story Criticism

More than 200,000 reprinted essays provide both critical perspectives and in-depth contextual information needed to understand the social, political and historical implications
of a work. This ever-growing collection is where researchers can:

Compare 18th- and 20th-century perspectives on anti-Semitism in “The Merchant of Venice”

Explore how the theme of fate in “The Aeneid” has been interpreted through the centuries

Read Kurt Vonnegut’s assessment of Herman Hesse’s “Steppenwolf”

Examine the influence of Disney films on children’s literature
