“We took our spinning wheel and lots of great prizes to the midnight premier of The Hunger Games movie at Kyova 10 Theater. Anyone who showed us a library card got to spin for a chance to win books from the popular series by Suzanne Collins, the movie soundtrack or some great BCPL stuff. And if they didn’t have a card, we signed them up for one! Let the Games begin!!! Then, in August, we hosted a premier party for the DVD release of “The Hunger Games,” complete with trivia, costume contest and archery (poor teddy bear), followed by a screening of the movie.”

“The library’s first-ever photo exhibit, called “Nightscapes,” runs Aug. 3 through Sept.4 at the Highlands Museum & Discovery Center, 1620 Winchester Ave. Forty photographers submitted their favorite original night scene – there are some really great shots! The opening reception is at 6 p.m. Friday. Aug. 3 (admission to the museum is free on First Friday). Regular museum admission prices apply during the rest of the exhibit period. “Nightscapes” is a part of “Between the Covers,” the adult summer reading program at BCPL which runs through Labor Day. A Best of Show award (and $50 prize) will be given at the Readers’ Night Out summer reading finale party on Sept. 7.”

“We have two Appy Hour programs each month. Representatives from AT&T come and show people the newest apps for their iPhone or other device. People are encouraged to share their favorite apps with others, too. “Members of the library’s Let’s Get Graphic! book club, along with other staff members, hung out at Kyova 10 Theatre before the May 3 midnight premier of Marvel’s “The Avengers.” Those waiting for the movie to start could show their library card and spin the prize wheel. “Our popular outdoor movie season returns to the Main Branch this year. Catch a free family film on the first Friday of each month, starting at dark. Just bring a chair and/or blanket, sit back and enjoy the show. The May movie was “Kung Fu Panda 2.” The rest of the schedule: June 1: “The Adventures of Tin Tin;” July 6: “Hoodwinked 2: Hood v. Evil;” and Aug. 3: “Cars 2.” In case of bad weather, the film will be shown on the second Friday at dark.”
