As you are probably aware, members of the Kentucky General Assembly have been meeting in Frankfort for more than a month now. The annual session has several weeks to go, and legislators have many important matters to consider, including big budgetary ones.
Kentucky and many other states throughout the country are having a tough time balancing their revenue and expenses, so it hardly seems like the time to say, “Hey, we need more money!” But it is important to remind those in charge of Kentucky’s budget that libraries and their services are vital to the Commonwealth and its citizens, and should continue to receive financial support.
Right now is a great time to contact your legislators, and urge them to continue to support public libraries and the many services they provide in this and other communities. Just click here to go to the State Officials page on this website, and find their contact information. Or, if you want to give us your comments to deliver, you can simply fill out a yellow postcard available at the front desk of any branch. We will be taking the postcards, and any other comments you send us, to Frankfort on Legislative Day – Wednesday, March 7.
