Love Your Library walk/run

On your mark … get set … GO!
Did you know Boyd County Public Library has a 5K? We do, and we are excited to announce that the 2nd annual Love Your Library 5K event is coming up soon – on Friday, April 25. Last year, about 350 participants and spectators took part, and we hope to draw an even bigger crowd this year.
Love Your Library 5K is a bit different than other 5K events because we include a 1.25-mile walk (one lap around Central Park) for those who would like to be involved but aren’t up to the 3.1 miles of a 5K.
All the festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. just outside the Main Branch on Central Avenue. The walk starts at 6 p.m. and the 5K at 7 p.m., followed by awards. Trophies will be awarded to the first two overall male and female finishers and medals to the first three finishers in each male and female age group. There is also something special for all first-time 5K participants.
The goal of our 5K is awareness and fun, and not raising money, which translates to one of the lowest registration fees in the region. Got a BCPL card? Then you already know about all the great things it can do for you. But here’s one more: with your BCPL card, registration for Love Your Library is $8 for the 5K and $5 for the walk. Without a library card, it’s still a deal; if you pre-register before April 25 is $10, and it’s $15 the day of the event. You can sign up at www.tristateracer.com or at any branch of Boyd County Public Library. Any staff member will be happy to take your registration and give you a receipt for your registration fee.
Another cool thing about our Love Your Library event are the community sponsorship opportunities. We offer booth space to the sponsoring businesses and organizations. So far, we have quite a few: thanks to McDonald’s, Ronald will be there to meet and great everyone; Sams Club will have a table, where folks can sign up for a membership; and Ashland Credit Union will also be involved. Other businesses that have stepped up to sponsor and/or donate door prizes or food for the event are Community Trust Bank, Andrews and Tackett, Ashland Furnace, Ashland Office Supply, Borders Sporting Goods, Chick-Fil-A, Fields Flowers, Jordan Ice, Paramount Arts Center, Papa Johns Pizza, Performance Engineering and Machine, River Cities Wireless, Second Hand Rose, Sweetbay Landscaping, Texas Roadhouse, Tim Hortons, The Independent, and Ashland Wal-Mart.
We’d love to add more sponsors to the list for this great community event. Interested? We have four sponsorship levels to choose from; Platinum $500, Gold $250, Silver $150, Bronze $50. Each level gets you exposure for your business or service through BCPL’s marketing, recognition on the race t-shirts, and an opportunity to be involved in the event. We also need door prizes and food goodies for the event.
