Kentucky Virtual Library (KYVL)

Open seven days a week, 24 hours a day, the Kentucky Virtual Library (KYVL) is dedicated to supplying all Kentuckians with a comprehensive and dynamic collection of information resources. The databases supplied through KYVL are paid for by collaborative efforts of state, public, academic and school libraries.  To access KYVL, visit one of the Library’s branches – OR *contact the Reference librarians for a password (cardholder status must be verified to receive current username and password).

The mission of KYVL is to provide all Kentuckians with equitable access to library resources and to a common foundation of quality online information for lifelong learning, working and living.

Elementary School Portal:

The Kentuckiana Digital Library is your gateway to rare and unique digitized collections housed in Kentucky archives. These digital collections are built to enhance scholarship, research and lifelong learning. Kid’s Search
Amazing Animals of the WorldAmazing Animals of the World is published by Scholastic Library Publishing, Inc. It is based on the print series of the same title. Amazing Animals was engineered by Grolier Interactive. It supports Netscape 4.5 and above and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 and above. New Book of KnowledgeThe New Book of Knowledge is published by Scholastic Inc. from The New Book of Knowledge database, a 7-million-word repository of text and images maintained by the encyclopedia’s editorial staff. NBK was engineered by Grolier Interactive. It supports Netscape 4.5 and above and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 and above.

 

Middle School Portal:

Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia (Middle – High School)The Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia is published by Grolier Online, an imprint of Scholastic, Inc. The Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia is derived from the Academic American Encyclopedia database, an 11-million-word repository of text and images maintained by the encyclopedia’s editorial and technical staff. Proquest - 2 Databases

  1. Alt-PressWatch - This database provides full-text articles for over 210 publications of the alternative and independent presses, from 1970 to current.
  2. Proquest Career and Technical Eduation - ProQuest Career & Technical Education is the definitive source for vocational information. The database includes nearly 600 titles, with more than 500 available in full text for quick access to research on virtually any technical topic.
Kid’s Search
Worldcat - Search for books and other media from libraries around the world.  Find something you’d like that the Library doesn’t have? Try requesting it through Interlibrary Loan.

 

High School Portal:

Encyclopedia Americana is one of the largest general
encyclopedias in the English language.
Following the acquisition of Grolier in 2000, the encyclopedia
has been produced by Scholastic.
