Board member needed
The Board of Trustees of Boyd County Public Library is seeking applications for a new member.
Any resident of Boyd County is eligible to apply and is encouraged to do so. We would especially welcome applicants from the unincorporated areas of the county in an effort to help us serve all of our patrons effectively. The Board would also like to encourage motivated professionals within the county to submit an application.
According to Kentucky law, the board must submit two candidates for each position to the state librarian for verification. Boyd County Judge-Executive William Stevens makes the final appointment from the candidates submitted.
The person selected would serve out the remaining three years on the term of Theresa Lyons, who recently moved out of Boyd County.
Library board members are volunteers, and spend 2-4 hours each month attending board meetings and doing other library business. Board members are asked to address all sorts of issues, including finance, technology and construction. They should know the needs of the library in relation to the community, and be an advocate for the library. Other duties include:
- Select, support and review competent and qualified director.
- Plan for the future by determining purposes and goals of the library.
- Know local and state laws; actively support library legislation in the state and nation.
The library is a Special Taxing District (not a state, county or city agency), which means it is regulated by state law and governed by a board of trustees. The board is responsible for planning, policymaking, development of financial and community support, and monitoring results.
Applications are available by clicking here. For more information, call Director Debbie Cosper at (606) 329-0518, ext. 1110.
