Another Earth
April 5, 2012 by Janice Ratliff
This is a 2011 movie about a parallel Earth that appears in the sky one night. It’s explained by orbits behind the sun. The movie never actually goes to the other Earth so that’s a bit disappointing. It’s mostly a story about the decisions and mistakes we make in life. We follow the life of a young woman who is living with the consequences of her actions. The ending isn’t very exciting but I enjoyed it because they don’t just … Continue reading
Immortals
April 3, 2012 by Jamie
I watched The Immortals for the first time with my husband on DVD the other evening; neither of us were terribly impressed. The film started out slow and did eventually move into some action packed fighting. However, the kicker for me was the inaccuracy of the film with regards to its mythological foundation. The premise is Theseus is a bastard, born to his mother after she was raped in a small Grecian village. Unbeknownst to Theseus, his friend and mentor is actual Zeus (leader of the Gods) in … Continue reading
Contagion
March 1, 2012 by Janice Ratliff
This movie stars Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law and Kate Winslet. If you weren’t terrified of germs or even the common cold before, you will be after you watch this movie. This is not just one of those apocalyptic, end-of-the-word sci-fi mysteries you have to go out on a limb to get into. This is a real OMG this could really be happening movie. The characters are believable and easy to relate to. Start the movie, grab a bag … Continue reading
Fracture

If you haven’t seen this movie, I highly recommend it. It stars Ryan Gosling and one of the greatest actors of all time: Anthony Hopkins. Billy Burke, Bella’s dad in the Twilight Saga, plays another police officer. The movie starts off with a bang, literally, and keeps a steady pace through to the end. It’s one of those movies you will enjoy watching again and again. I do.
The Artist
February 7, 2012 by Leigh Scaggs
I got a chance to see The Artist this weekend and hope the Library picks up a copy when it comes out on DVD in April. While I loved the film I’m a little reticent to recommend it widely but, if you love old movies, great performances, and aren’t afraid of silence, it’s a great movie. The movie is set at the time in Hollywood’s history when talkies were created and the old silent stars were being dismissed for fresher … Continue reading
