I really need your help in making the Get Caught Reading program a success. Each day in May BCPL goes out looking for someone reading, gives them a t-shirt and takes their picture. Leighton Harper Lowe was born to Whitney Lyons and Chris Lowe on Tuesday, April 23. She is 6 lbs. 15 oz. and is 19 1/4 inches long. Whitney and Leighton are doing great!

Tuesday, April 16 is National Library Workers Day. For that reason, lunch will be delivered to all locations tomorrow. I will be picking up lunch from Texas Roadhouse at 11, and then heading out to each location. There will be food for evening shift workers as well. We have an e-reader class in the main meeting room, so lunch will be set up in the lounge at Main.

Holiday Happenings and Attire

If you are participating in the Christmas Parade tomorrow, or Big Brothers Big Sisters Christmas Tree Sale, you can wear your holiday sweatshirt (the new navy one you received today) with jeans to work tomorrow (Tuesday 11/20). Jeans are also acceptable with a holiday shirt on Wednesday 11/21.

If you are planning on eating dinner at the library tomorrow before the parade. I need to know ASAP. I am ordering pizza and want to make sure we have enough.

Wreath Classes

Yes, its beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and I need your help. Our annual wreath-making classes will be Friday, December 7 at noon at Main and Saturday December 8 at 11 a.m. at Kyova. Each class is limited to 15 participants. Online registration begins on Monday, November 19. Please do not take names and numbers of people who want to register–that makes it difficult for me to determine who was first. Ask them to go online to register, and if they can’t (or won’t), and you have time, click the link from the events section of our homepage and register them, or transfer them to me (1140) and I’ll get take care of it. Thanks for your help!!

LUNCH IS ON US!!!

In honor of All-Staff Day that isn’t (technically)–BCPL will be providing your lunch today. Moe’s will be delivering lunch at 11:30 to Main and then I will be bringing lunch to Kyova. Evening shift staff will their lunch in the staff lounge at their location. Have a great All-Staff Day!!

FLU SHOTS

I know everyone is so very excited about getting their flu shots that I scheduled 2 opportunities for you to get one. Remember, BCPL will pay for your flu shot and you get an extra wellness point. Flu shots will be offered Thursday, October 25 at Main from noon to 2 in the meeting room. You can also roll up your sleeve and get a little shot of flu on Monday, October 29 from 9 a.m. to noon at Kyova.

September 30 begins Banned Books Week and your help is needed. We have planned, “An Afternoon in Exile” on Sunday 9/30 at 2pm. Essentially, it goes like this–patrons, and staff will read a selection from their favorite banned or challenged book, and then briefly discuss that selection. Here’s where you come in…I need a few staff members to come, read and discuss. Please let me know if you can help out.

Its that time again!!

Its that time of year again when we have to start thinking about those major events in which each of us is required to participate. You may choose, Labor Day festivities in Catlettsburg, Poage Landing Days in Ashland or the Christmas Parade in Ashland.

Labor Day Festivites: Saturday, September 1—Kids Crafts followed by a movie on the Courthouse Lawn. We need people to set-up and run the craft tables as well as help with the movie. There will be 5:00-7:00, 6:00-8:00, and 7:00-9:00 shifts available.

Poage Landing Days: Saturday September 15— Tent downtown, signing people up for Library cards, giving away prizes. 2 hour shifts from 11-5

Christmas Parade: Tuesday November 20—Parade walking and clean-up. As of 10:0o a.m on 8/16, set-up is full. Jim Kettel, Leigh Scaggs, Bryan Greene, Kim Murphy and Deborah Jonas are handing set-up. Thanks!

Please talk with your supervisor and let me know at which event I can expect you. I need your response no later than Friday August 24.’

Monday’s Health Screening is Postponed

Our Lady of Bellefonte will not be able to do our scheduled health screening on Monday morning. Diana Williams, has been called out of town to welcome her first grand baby. The screening will be rescheduled ASAP (hopefully within the week). I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. I guess the bright side is, you can have breakfast on Monday morning!
