For those of you not into county history or genealogy, Boyd County was formed in 1860.  For many years I have indexed Boyd County marriages, our online marriage database has now been updated through 1920.  The database includes brides, grooms and parents if listed; you will also find the marriage date, the Marriage Book and the page number of the marriage certificate.  There are approximately 19,000 marriages and they are easily searched by any name whether it be the bride, groom or parents.

For researchers who can’t make it to the library it is conveniently searchable from anywhere there is internet access.ball-and-chain-cake-topper01

In the Minnie Winder Room we have microfilm available for Boyd County Marriages 1860 – 1993.

In transcribing the marriages you can also be entertained such as:

“Indian” being written at the top of the marriage license, by the way only one in all those marriages.

Car Repair Man as an occupation in 1910.

A famous one was “Do Not Publish” and was written on many licenses.

Imagine a 70 year old man marrying a 20 year old woman, it happened more than I can count.
